Thursday, July 9th, the City of Miami Commission unanimously approved Miami-Dade County's appeal for the Coconut Grove Playhouse project’s zoning requests. This approval allows Miami-Dade County to begin permitting Phase 2 of the Coconut Grove Playhouse project, which includes completion of the Historic Gateway building, construction of the new state-of-the-art theater and the design and construction of the public parking Garage. Watch the City of Miami Commission meeting here.

The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs participated in a community meeting regarding the Coconut Grove Playhouse project. This public meeting was hosted by City of Miami Commissioner Pardo, District 2,  and attended by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Regalado, District 7, on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting was held at Miami City Hall, located at 3500 Pan American Drive, Miami, FL 33133.

Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs Announces Cultural Grants Program Deadlines for the 2026-2027 Fall Cycle

On May 6, 2026, Miami-Dade County appeared before the City of Miami’s Planning, Zoning, and Appeals Board (PZAB) seeking approval of five Exceptions and four subordinate Waivers for the Coconut Grove Playhouse project.  The application received the support of, and a favorable recommendation by, the City of Miami’s professional planning and zoning staff.  At the conclusion of the public hearing and after board discussion, the PZAB voted 5-to-4 in favor of the County’s application, but the motion failed to achieve a supermajority, as required by the Miami 21 code, and was therefore deemed den
