GOB funds will help in the transformation of this local icon, built in 1926, into a 21st century theatrical venue. The plan to return great regional theater to Coconut Grove must address the structural deterioration of the building, and provide a venue capable of serving as the home for GableStage, the planned successor theater company for the Playhouse.
Project Update (March 31, 2025)
Coconut Grove Playhouse Project Progresses: Cone of Silence Lifted
Miami-Dade County’s “Cone of Silence” rules, which apply to all County competitive selection processes, prohibit communication regarding a particular bid solicitation after it has been advertised and until a written recommendation is issued. The Cone of Silence is designed to protect the professional integrity of the procurement process by shielding it from undue influences prior to the recommendation of a contract award. The Cone of Silence now has been lifted for this project. The project is moving forward with the permitting process in collaboration with the City of Miami. John Bell Construction has been awarded the Phase 1 scope and is preparing to get started on the work to bring great theater back to Coconut Grove.
