Coconut Grove Playhouse – One More Critical Meeting (Really)

On Thursday, May 23 at 9:00 am, the City of Miami Commission will act on the veto issued by City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez that stops the County-FIU plan for reviving the Coconut Grove Playhouse. It takes 4 of the 5 City of Miami Commissioners to override City of Miami Mayor Suarez’s veto.

We encourage you to be there (City Hall – 3500 Pan American Way) to show your support – one more time - for the County-FIU Coconut Grove Playhouse project. The City of Miami Code requires that the veto be the first item for the City of Miami Commission agenda and it requires that the public can speak.

If the City of Miami Commission overrides City of Miami Mayor Suarez’s veto, the County-FIU project can move forward immediately. Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez stated, “We will pursue every means available to us to fulfill our promise to make the Coconut Grove Playhouse a place where our families and kids can once again enjoy the arts for generations to come. It is the right thing to do.”
