The Jewish Museum of Florida at Florida International University is seeking an experienced Exhibition Designer.
Duties Include:
- Maintains the physical aspects of exhibits and assists curator in changes to the exhibit.
- Maintains exhibit program at the Museum, layout and design of exhibits, production of exhibits, installation and maintenance of exhibits, maintains files of potential temporary exhibits for Museum to rent.
- Maintains inventory of exhibits to rent out with fact sheets, seeks venues for our traveling exhibits, makes arrangements and contracts for exhibits that travel.
- Maintains inventory of collections supplies and equipment and assists with research requests.
- Assists with the maintenance/update disaster preparedness plan, monitors maintenance program and inventory of maintenance equipment.
- Maintains current inventory of contents of all storage areas and supervises inventory changes for the Museum off site storage facilities.
- Assists in the preparation of reports as needed and cooperates and assists other staff to further the mission of the Museum.
- Manages all aspects of the Jewish Museum's exhibition program, including permanent collection displays, museum-generated exhibitions, loan shows, and traveling exhibitions, as well as accompanying publications.
- Coordinates and acts as liaison for Jewish museum traveling exhibitions, including conduction object research; managing object checklist, manages project photographic documentation; coordinates contracts, meetings and travel documents for independent contractors, i.e. conservators, publishers, framer; assists in the development of work plans; identifies possible venues, and prepares and distributes traveling exhibition proposals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related discipline and five (5) years' experience in related field; OR Master's degree and three (3) years' experience in related field.
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others Ability to demonstrate a strong attention to detail Excellent communication (written and oral) skills
- Advanced graphic design skills and proficient in Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator Ability to handle multiple projects and multitask Ability to meet deadlines Ability to negotiate and manage contractual arrangements
- Must have the ability to supervise employees Ability to solve problems independently, use independent judgement and decision making
- Must have a valid driver's license and will sometimes rent/drive a truck
- Must be able to lift up 50 lbs
- Basic knowledge of use power tools
