Christina Tassy is the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs' Chief of Arts Education, Access, and Engagement. She joined the Department in July 1997 and holds an Executive Master of Public Administration, a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, and a Minor in French from Florida International University, Miami, FL.
In her current role Christina oversees a portfolio, which includes:
- All Kids Included, an initiative providing accessible cultural arts experiences to children of all abilities;
- Culture Shock Miami, an audience development program for teens and young adults;
- Golden Ticket Arts Guide, providing free tickets to arts events and performances for older adults; and
- Golden Tours, an artistic workshop series serving Miami-Dade County Senior Centers.
Under Christina’s leadership, the Arts Education division will continue to provide youth-centric grants programs that benefit more than 300,000 children and families annually through artistic services and experiences offered by more than 100 nonprofit arts and cultural organizations.
Previously, Christina served as the Senior Program Manager of Culture Shock Miami, a National Association of Counties (NaCO) award-winning program launched in 2002. Through her strategic efforts, the program collaborates with cultural organizations and facilities to subsidize ticket prices for teens and young adults (ages 13-22) throughout Miami-Dade County. The program serves over 20,000 youth annually, providing access to high quality artistic programming and field trips through its annual presenting series.
Christina has worked in all areas of the grants division within the Department and has successfully administered multiple grants programs, including Cultural Advancement, Cultural Development, Festival and Special Events, International Cultural Partnerships, and the Tourist Development Council Grants Programs. Christina currently manages the Targeted Grants Program that provides annual funding to Miami-Dade County’s culturally diverse arts organizations.
Christina’s professional associations include the Florida Professional Presenters Consortium where she chairs the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee. She also serves on the Education and Advocacy Committees and as Secretary on the organization’s Executive Board. She is a liaison to the Haitian-Creole and French-speaking communities of Miami-Dade County and has served on the City of Miami’s Little Haiti Cultural Complex Planning Committee and the Miami-Haiti Bicentennial Committee.
A native of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Christina is fluent in Haitian-Creole and French. She has received formal training in Haitian folklore, Classical Ballet, Jazz, Modern, and Afro-Caribbean dance.
